Sip bourbon and taste barbecue while raising money for children’s programs at the Bourbon & BBQ fundraiser on Saturday. The event features barbecued ribs, bourbon tastings and live music, with proceeds benefiting Just Imagine KidZ and the Nia Academy — two organizations that supply books, learning resources and creative educational programs for children and families.

4 | Art exhibit inspired by 12th century poem debuts, June 6

An art exhibit inspired by a 12th century Persian poem is opening at a Point Richmond gallery on Saturday. The Conference of the Birds exhibit showcases the works of Sadiqeh Agah, an Iranian-American visual artist and painter based in Richmond. This is Agah’s first solo show, on display through June 28.

5 | Annual Pride parade travels from Nicholl Park to Civic Center, June 7

A parade and festival are headlining this year’s celebration of Richmond’s LGBTQ+ community on Sunday. The 12th Annual Pride Event kicks off at 11 a.m. with a parade from Nicholl Park to the Richmond Civic Center, followed by a community gathering from noon to 4 p.m. featuring music, dancing, food and other activities.

7 | Groundbreaking for Richmond’s first universally accessible garden, June 9

Richmond is breaking ground on its first garden designed for older adults and people with disabilities on Tuesday. The Urban Tilth universally accessible garden groundbreaking along the Richmond Greenway Trail aims to bring the community together and share information about a project rooted in equity and access — one that ensures “everyone, regardless of age or ability, has the opportunity to engage with nature, grow fresh food, and gather in a welcoming environment.”
