Vegemite on Boichik bagels, Johnny Drama hosting a sold-out watch party in Berkeley and out-of-towners waiting on the wrong BART platform. It must be time for the World Cup in the Bay!

It’s been nearly three decades since the U.S. last hosted the World Cup, and, lucky for us, six games will be played right down Interstate 880 at Levi’s Stadium, temporarily renamed San Francisco Bay Area Stadium, in Santa Clara. But, you don’t have to sit in traffic and pony up hundreds of dollars for a ticket to enjoy the World Cup this year — watch the most exciting matches right here in the East Bay with fans from around the world at the many bars and restaurants hosting watch parties and screenings.

The Bay Area will host eight international teams, including the Australian team, the Socceroos, who are training in Oakland at the Roots/Soul facility. Across the East Bay, businesses are participating in Australia A la Carte, showcasing some of the country’s local dishes, such as Reem’s take on a Tim Tam Slam.

The games will kick off with a match in Mexico City on June 11, and opening parties are planned across the Bay with exciting food and drink specials. On Friday, June 12, the U.S. team will take on Paraguay at 6 p.m. Check out the full schedule of games from June 11 to July 19 to set your calendar.

Here’s Nosh’s guide for where to watch the matches, including watch parties and special events from Richmond to San Leandro. With over 60 watch parties in the East Bay alone, this list is just a sampling of where you can catch the matches. Nosh focused on geographic diversity and establishments doing something special for the World Cup, but we’re betting the beautiful game will be on screens in cafes, bars and restaurants across the region. Organized by town, find where you want to cheer on your team this summer, and locations that are supporting specific countries are marked by that nation’s flag.
