Richmond’s dueling voting measures
Richmond Measure J: Switch to primary elections still leading in Friday count
The competing Measure L, which would establish ranked-choice voting, loses because it received fewer “yes” votes.
Measure L: If this measure passes, it establishes a “ranked choice” system. Voters will be able to select more than one candidate.
Measure J: If this measure passes it would establish a nonpartisan primary election system where if no candidate receives a majority of the votes cast, the top two candidates would appear on the general election ballot.
