Police have arrested a 30-year-old Richmond man in connection with a fatal stabbing at a Belding Woods transitional home that left a 59-year-old man dead and another injured.
According to police, David Contreras, 30, of Richmond, stabbed two people following an argument inside the residence before leaving the scene.
The deceased person was identified by police as 59-year-old Michael Young of Martinez.
Contreras reportedly surrendered Wednesday morning at the Concord Parole Office. He was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, according to police.
A search for Contreras on the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office inmate locator Wednesday afternoon did not yield any results.
Richmond police said the case will be forwarded to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Richmond police said that officers initially responded just after 11 p.m. on Tuesday to the 1700 block of Wood Place where the two victims were found.
Both were taken to a local hospital where Young died, police said. The other victim’s condition is unknown but was described as “stable.”
The homicide is the city’s fifth of the year, according to department statistics.
