A person was shot and killed Friday in Richmond’s Iron Triangle neighborhood, and police say they arrested a suspect within hours.

The killing marks Richmond’s third homicide of 2026.

Officers responded just before 6:30 p.m. to the 200 block of West Nevin Avenue, north of the St. John’s Apartments, and found a person who had been shot. They died at the scene.

Investigators used Flock license-plate cameras to track the suspect’s vehicle from Richmond to Concord. Police say the “critical investigative tool” helped them find the alleged gunman within hours.

“With the assistance of the Concord Police Department, the suspect was located and taken into custody without incident later that evening,” Richmond police said in a statement. “This case highlights the value of technology, strong investigative work, and regional law enforcement partnerships in helping bring violent offenders into custody quickly.”

Neither the person arrested nor the victim have been identified by police, and detectives are still investigating the motive behind the shooting.

Anyone with information on the shooting is encouraged to call the Richmond Police Department’s investigations bureau at (510) 621-1288.
