El Barrio
From the team behind Xingones comes El Barrio, a new sports bar in Old Oakland — in the original Old Oakland location of Xingones. The corner restaurant has had a facelift and is now ready to open to the public starting Tuesday, June 30, in time to catch the final weeks of the World Cup. Jjamppong Zizon
The popular South Korean chain, Jjamppong Zizon, has arrived in the East Bay. The Oakland location on Broadway serves the spicy famous seafood noodle soup along with Korean jjajangmyeon, a black bean sauce noodles. A location is also coming soon to Hayward. Jjamppong Zizon, 3905 Broadway, Oakland
Mile Limit
Berkeley Wine Shop Mile Limit, from Sergio Monleón and Emily Sarlatte (the team behind La Marcha), is expanding into a wine bar and vinyl lounge. The lounge soft opens July 1 and will grand open the weekend of July 24. The menu will include wines by the glass, cheeseboards, housemade tins, crudos, anchovy butter toast, pastries, escabeches, and with DJ’s spinning records. Monleón shared with NOSH that the opening food menu will also include oysters with Shared Cultures’ miso-citrus mignonette, crudo with citrus and chili oil, burrata with seasonal fruit and saba, anchovy butter toast, pâté, and sardines. Oakberry Acai
The global acai chain, Oakberry Acai, is now open on University Avenue in downtown Berkeley. Oakberry serves build-your-own acai bowls, smoothies, and snacks. Oakberry Acai, 2121 University Ave., Berkeley
Ones Cafe & Bakery
One’s Cafe & Bakery is scheduled to open July 1 in the former Coffee Cultures space on Park Street in Alameda. The grand opening will be Saturday, July 4. The bakery and coffee shop serves French pastries, with some inspired by Asian flavors – even more selection than the Castro Valley shop, we are told – plus coffee drinks, soft serve, and affogato (and a special ice cream croissant!). Paulina’s Cafecitos
A new cafe has opened near the Fruitvale neighborhood in Oakland. The Latina-owned shop, close to Fremont High, serves espresso drinks such as a banana cold foam latte and an horchata latte, matcha drinks, and lemonades. Paulina’s Cafecitos, 4200 Foothill Blvd., Oakland
Reem’s Jack London Square
The highly-anticipated Palestinian-Californian bakery and restaurant by Reem Assil has opened in Jack London Square. This is a homecoming of sorts, as Reem’s first opened as a brick-and-mortar in the Fruitvale neighborhood in 2017 and was also a vendor at the Old Oakland farmer’s market. Reem’s in Jack London Square is in the former Miette location and features a team of worker-owners. The menu includes signature wraps, such as a sumac chicken wrap, grab-and-go items, and coffee, tea, and other housemade drinks. Reem’s, 85 Webster St., Oakland
