1 | See Shakespeare’s ‘Taming of the Shrew’ at Masquers, Oct. 9-11

The words of William Shakespeare will grace the stage of the Masquers Playhouse in Point Richmond. The staged reading of “The Taming of the Shrew” is a collaboration between Masquers’ Envision series and the Curtain Theatre of Mill Valley. The presentation imagines Shakespeare’s courtship comedy taking place in an Elizabethan England where the society is controlled by women.

Oct. 9-10, 8 p.m., Sun., Oct. 11, 2 p.m., Masquers Playhouse, 105 Park Place. $15 general admission. Free for season ticket holders.

2 | Honor Richmond Art Center founder by making block prints, Oct. 10

You can get some hands-on experience with block printing, an art form that Richmond Art Center founder Hazel Salmi was known for, at a workshop that is part of the 90th anniversary celebrations at the Richmond Art Center. The class, Making History: Block Printing in the Galleries, will be overseen by teaching artist Anna Kingsley, who will guide participants in creating a simple print inspired by works in the current exhibit “One Artist Contributes, Then Another, Then Another.” The workshop is open to all ages. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

3 | Art exhibit focusing on light and color is opening, Oct. 10

A new exhibit will be on display at the ar-ti-fact gallery in Point Richmond. An opening reception for Where Light and Color Sing will showcase the works of Arts of Point Richmond artists Lenore Stormes and Susan Brady. Attendees will be able to meet the artists as well as enjoy refreshments.

4 | Help beautify a neighborhood at Garden in the Park, Oct. 10

An outdoor gardening day has been planned by city officials to help make a Richmond neighborhood more beautiful. The Garden in the Park gathering will be held at the Stewart Playlot. Participants will pull weeds, pick up trash, plant flowers, dig holes for  trees and help assemble three wooden planter boxes. Tools and food will be provided. Live music is also scheduled. The event is funded by the city’s Love Your Block program.

5 | San Pablo Avenue Artist’s Market showcases neighborhood creatives, Oct. 11

The Factory Bar is partnering with neighboring businesses to host a neighborhood art festival. The Artist’s Market will feature works from 50 artists and artisans in the businesses’ parking lots and on the Factory Bar patio. The artisans will include painters, chocolatiers, candle makers, bakers and jewelers.

6 | Watch Blue Angels flyover at pancake breakfast, Oct. 11

You can enjoy pancakes on the deck of an historic ship while watching the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels fly by. The SS Red Oak Victory is hosting the 2026 Fleet Week Pancake Breakfast in recognition of the country’s naval heritage. The breakfast will include pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon and apple slices along with orange juice, coffee and tea. There will also be live music and a wine tasting. Guests are also welcome to stay aboard the SS Red Oak during the afternoon to watch the Blue Angels.

7 | Bird watching hike planned along Wildcat Creek, Oct. 13

The Golden Gate Bird Alliance will host a short bird watching hike along Wildcat Creek in Alvarado Park. The half-mile stroll will include opportunities to spot native bird species such as acorn woodpeckers, brown creepers, red-shouldered hawks and Steller’s jays. The hike is limited to 15 people. Registration closes at 11 p.m. on Mon., Oct. 12
