The Contra Costa Civic Theatre in El Cerrito is hosting its final showings of a play about an East Bay private school in the midst of a mumps outbreak. Oakland playwright Jonathan Spector wrote “Eureka Day” before the COVID pandemic, but it still shows how fear and misinformation can cause conflict in a local community. The play closes Sept. 27.

The 2026 Ports Day will let visitors tour Richmond’s historic port, learn about its operations and connect with maritime professionals about career opportunities. 3 | Richmond Annex neighborhood celebrates 100th anniversary, Sept. 26
A historic neighborhood is marking its 100th anniversary. The Richmond Annex Block Party will feature live music, food and dessert trucks, a bouncy house, a book swap, a scavenger hunt, and works from local artists. The centennial celebration will focus on the neighborhood’s history and community pride.

4 | Tacos and tequila fundraiser for youth programs, Sept. 26
Mexican food and drink will fuel a fundraiser for two Richmond youth programs. The Tacos and Tequila gathering will raise money for the Nia Academy and Just Imagine KidZ. Accordionist Andre Thierry will provide the music.

5 | Afternoon of music and food benefits El Sobrante school, Sept. 26
Live music and an array of food will fill an afternoon benefiting a nature-based school. Canyon Fest 2026 will feature a range of musicians, a DJ, local food vendors, and artisans. The event raises money for the Wildcat Canyon Community School in El Sobrante.

6 | El Sobrante Pride festival brings drag, vendors, community to Cheese Park, Sept. 27
Organizers have planned a vibrant celebration to shine a spotlight on the LGBTQIA+ community. The El Sobrante Pride festival will feature DJ Page Hodel, more than 50 local vendors, food trucks, drag queens, drag kings, face painters, a petting zoo, and pets available for adoption. Organizers say the event will be “a day of love, unity and community.”

7 | Bird-watching hike along shores of Point Molate, Sept. 28
The East Bay Regional Park District has organized a bird-watching hike along the coastline at Point Molate. Park district naturalist Anthony Fisher will lead the excursion. This drop-in event doesn’t require pre-registration — participants can simply show up at Point Molate Beach Park.
