1 | Richmond rolls up its sleeves for Coastal Cleanup Day, Sept. 19
Volunteers statewide will participate in California Coastal Cleanup Day, and there are numerous events planned in the Richmond area. All of the cleanups will take place Sat., Sept. 19, between 9 a.m. and noon.
The Watershed Project has organized several gatherings following this year’s theme of “Making Space for All Creatures.” Organizers ask participants to wear layers, a hat, sunscreen and closed-toe shoes.
The biggest gathering will take place in the Marina Bay neighborhood at Shimada Friendship Park, 79 Harbor View Dr., where participants will pick up trash along the Richmond shoreline.
Another cleanup at Wildcat Creek will bring volunteers together to pick up litter along that waterway, which flows through Richmond. Participants should gather at the Lucky A’s North Richmond Baseball Field, 1925 Fred Jackson Way.
The East Bay Regional Park District has also scheduled coastal cleanup events at Point Pinole Regional Shoreline, where volunteers should meet at the Giant Staging Area, 5551 Giant Highway, and Point Isabel Regional Shoreline, where volunteers should meet at the end of Rydin Road.

2 | Race raises money for research into rare brain cancer, Sept. 19
Families, friends and community members will run along the Richmond shoreline to support people being treated for a rare form of brain cancer. The Fast Track to a Cure 5K Bay Area will raise money for research into oligodendroglioma, a brain tumor that usually appears in people under age 50. Richmond resident Stanley Currier, who was diagnosed with the illness in 2021, is the organizer of the annual event. The course follows the San Francisco Bay Trail in the Marina Bay neighborhood, with music, activities, costumes, and prizes rounding out the event.

3 | Block party in El Sobrante includes parade, cars, music, Sept. 20
A block party will take up a half-mile of San Pablo Dam Road in El Sobrante. The 31st Annual El Sobrante Stroll will include a parade with marching bands, live music, a classic car show, more than 100 local vendors and children’s activities. The cosmic festivities follow the theme It’s Out of this World. San Pablo Dam Road will be closed between El Portal Drive and Appian Way during the event.

4 | Volunteer workday to spruce up Miraflores Greenbelt, Sept. 22
Organizers are asking local residents to help beautify the Miraflores Sustainable Greenbelt. Volunteers will remove trash, pull weeds, spread mulch, and install weed barriers. Participants should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Organizers will provide breakfast, lunch, tools and supplies.

5 | Public invited to tour NIAD Art Center, Sept. 23
NIAD Art Center is inviting the public to take a special tour. The “Art and About” Tour will give participants a cloer look at the progressive art studio for adult artists with developmental disabilities. The event is free, but organizers encourage those interested to email Arts of Point Richmond by Sept. 22 to secure a spot.

6 | Music, dancing, food at latest Music on the Main concert, Sept. 24
Put on dancing shoes and prepare your taste buds for the final Music on the Main show of the summer, featuring Beaufunk. The festivities will also include dancing, local food vendors and beverages. The concert marks the final of three summer performances in downtown Richmond, sponsored by the Richmond Main Street Initiative and other organizations and companies.

7 | A stroll with a story along Richmond’s shoreline, Sept. 24
Sand between your toes and a good story await you at the shoreline in the coming week. The Story Stroll will feature East Bay Regional Park District naturalist Melissa Fowlks, as well as librarians from the Richmond public libraries. The event will also include beach activities at Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline.
