The Point Richmond Music Festival continues on Friday with live music, food, arts and crafts and children’s activities, marking the second installment of a summer series that happens on the second Friday of the month through September. This month’s lineup features the band Wreckless Strangers and musician Aki Kumar. Local restaurants stay open on concert nights, with art displays, children’s face painting, and dancing in the streets rounding out the evening.

2 | ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ opens at Masquers Playhouse, July 10
A musical with some bite is opening at Masquers Playhouse in Point Richmond. “Little Shop of Horrors,” which chronicles the saga of florist shop owner Seymour, will run through August 2, with performances on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

3 | Blues festival highlights reopening of Shields-Reid Park, July 11
After a major renovation, Shields-Reid Park is being celebrated Saturday with an event befitting one of North Richmond’s most beloved community spaces. A California State Parks grant of $8 million helped fund the upgrade. The funding brings a new children’s play area, bike pump track, stage and performance area, fitness zone, public art, habitat garden, zip line and new restroom. A ribbon cutting kicks off the day, followed by the 15th Annual North Richmond Music Festival with live bands, food and activities.

4 | Join a ukulele jam session in Point Richmond, July 14
A Richmond library-hosted ukulele jam session invites everyone to listen in — or pick up an instrument and play along — in Point Richmond. A group of retirees has formed a ukulele band preparing for an upcoming performance at a local senior home, playing everything from the Beatles to Leonard Cohen. The band brings extra ukuleles for anyone who wants to play.

5 | Families getting together to cook, share recipes, weekly through Aug. 13
Richmond households can get together with their neighbors to share delicious meals and swap recipes at the Cooking With Families gatherings sponsored by the nonprofit FIERCE Advocates. The sessions run every Thursday through Aug. 13 and promise “sharing laughs, learning new recipes and enjoying quality time in the kitchen.”
