1 | Celebrations in Richmond, El Cerrito for Independence Day, July 3-4
West Contra Costa County is marking Independence Day with two celebrations this week.
In Richmond, the city is hosting its annual Third of July Fireworks Show along the shoreline, with music, food and activities for all ages and a fireworks show at 9:15 p.m. Bring blankets, jackets and chairs.
El Cerrito’s World One Festival brings live music ranging from jazz to Hawaiian to West African to Americana, along with food, arts, games and rides. A strolling circus will also entertain the crowd throughout the day. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and sunglasses. A hydration station will offer free water refills.

2 | ‘At the Water’s Edge’ art exhibit opens with sculpture and watercolors, July 5
The ar-ti-fact gallery in Point Richmond is opening an exhibit combining painting and sculpture on Sunday. “At the Water’s Edge” showcases sculptures by Jim Bruce exploring the human form alongside watercolor paintings by Eric Greenwood depicting sailboats, lighthouses and San Francisco Bay.

3 | Family puppet-making workshop at library, July 8
Families can have fun making puppets together at a workshop at the Point Richmond library. Risa Lenore of the Possibly Puppets visual theater company from Berkeley leads the puppet-making workshop, guiding participants in sculpting, designing and creating puppets from upcycled and recycled materials. Lenore also offers instruction on puppet manipulation. Open to children 4 and older.

4 | The sounds of Music on the Main is downtown, July 9
Downtown Richmond’s summer concert series returns for its second installment with Music on the Main at The Lot. The evening brings dancing, live music, local cuisine and beverages to Macdonald Avenue. The series opened June 18 and wraps up with a final performance on Sept. 24.
