Heavier traffic expected on Richmond-San Rafael Bridge on July 4

The Golden Gate Bridge will be closed from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on July 4 for a fireworks display launched from the historic span for only the third time in the bridge’s 90-year history. The fireworks show is expected to begin about 9:30 p.m. Motorists traveling between Marin County and San Francisco will be rerouted to the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge during that time. East Bay drivers are advised to take the Bay Bridge to San Francisco.

AC Transit fare hike takes effect

An AC Transit fare increase went into effect today, the second of a two-part increase approved in March 2025. A local single ride now costs $2.75 with a Clipper or contactless bank card, or $3 cash. A transbay single ride costs $6.50 by card and cash. Local day, weekly and monthly passes are available, as are monthly transbay passes.

Richmond native Cynt Marshall honored at STEM exhibit

Richmond native Cynt Marshall is one of 26 women being recognized at an exhibit honoring innovators in science, technology, engineering and math. The Game Changers exhibit, on display at the FIFA Fan Festival in Dallas until July 19, highlights how STEM powers the world of sports — from data analytics to biomechanics to sports medicine. Marshall, a graduate of Kennedy High School and UC Berkeley, is being honored for her groundbreaking tenure as chief executive officer of the Dallas Mavericks. She was the first Black woman to hold that title in the NBA.

Historic SS Red Oak Victory ship needs volunteers

Officials are seeking volunteers to help greet visitors aboard the historic SS Red Oak Victory ship along the Richmond shoreline. The ship’s association is facing a staffing crisis and warns it may have to close the ship to weekend visitors without more volunteer support. The association provides training for those who sign up as greeters. The SS Red Oak Victory is the last of the 747 ships built at the Richmond shipyards during World War II.

Contra Costa County wants input on emergency alert system

Contra Costa County is surveying residents and visitors on how they receive emergency alerts through the community warning system. The survey covers warnings, preparedness, language access and communications for incidents such as wildfires, earthquakes, refinery incidents, severe weather, and public safety emergencies. It takes about 10 minutes to complete and responses are anonymous.
