4 | SPAWNERS leads summer nature walk through Kennedy Grove Regional Park, June 28
The environmental group SPAWNERS is leading a summer nature walk through Kennedy Grove Regional Park on Sunday. The 1.5-mile hike explores birds, bugs and native plants along the park’s trails, led by SPAWNERS steering committee members Gudrun Kleist and Martha Berthelsen, who bring decades of experience with local flora and fauna. All ages are welcome. Please leave pets at home.

6 | RYSE Center opens free summer programs for Richmond youths, June 30-Aug. 7
The RYSE Center is opening its doors for free summer programs starting June 30, welcoming Richmond youths ages 13 to 21. The center runs weekdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., through Aug. 7, with catered meals and snacks provided daily. Free activities include cooking classes as well as art, fashion, writing, resume support, health education, gardening and dance.

7 | Pop-up books part of Tell Your Story workshop, July 2
Teens can create their own personalized pop-up books during a workshop at Richmond’s main library. The Tell Your Story seminar will be led by film producer LaVera Wilson, who guides teens in creating an accordion book featuring their own room on the first page. From there, participants build additional rooms with pockets and flips for secret notes or notes to their future self.
