In a late addition to this election season’s calendar of events, the League of Women Voters of West Contra Costa County and the West Contra Costa Unified School District sent out a Friday afternoon press release announcing that they’re holding a WCCUSD school board candidates night on Monday.

The forum will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the De Anza High School Theater, 5000 Valley View Road, Richmond.

There are three WCCUSD school board seats up for election Nov. 5, but only one is contested, meaning two candidates will automatically assume office. The announcement said all three candidates are expected to attend:

  • Trustee Area 1: Jamela Smith-Folds (incumbent, running unopposed);
  • Trustee Area 2: Otheree Christian (incumbent) and Guadalupe Enllana; and
  • Trustee Area 3: Cinthia Hernandez (running unopposed after Mister Phillips decided not to run).

No questions will be taken by audience members during the forum, but questions can be submitted in advance by emailing wccusdcandidateforum@wccusd.net.

A school candidates forum hosted by the Contra Costa County Charter Coalition was held Oct. 3 at Making Waves Academy, but Christian told organizers the day before the event that he would not attend due to a family obligation.

“We look forward to a robust discussion and encourage all members of the community to attend,” said the press release issued by WCCUSD.
