With $54 million in assets, Sogorea Te’ has big dreams for its reclaimed West Berkeley shellmound site. Its voluntary shuumi land tax has become wildly popular in the East Bay even as it has drawn criticism from other Ohlone groups that say the money doesn’t reach the broader community.
