DH Noodles and Grill

Doppio Zero

A new modern Italian restaurant grand opens in Walnut Creek this Wednesday, May 27. The restaurant serves neapolitan style pizzas, pastas, and Southern Italian entrees. The opening, from 6-8:30pm, includes a ribbon cutting and free pizza slices and small plates. This is the Bay Area chain’s sixth location. Doppio Zero, 1522 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek

Dumpling Day

A new dumpling spot opened in Berkeley. The menu features pan fried mini dumplings and xiao long bao (soup dumplings). Beyond dumplings, the menu is extensive, including mala soups, smoked chicken, and noodle soups. Dumpling Day, 2115 Kittredge St., Berkeley

El Trompudo

A new taco spot has opened in Berkeley near the Cal campus. El Trompudo specializes in Jalisco-style Mexican food from the owners of a restaurantin El Sobrante. Their Berkeley restaurant is housed in the former Joshu-ya, one of Berkeley’s first sushi restaurants that opened in 1978 (it closed in 2017). El Trompudo, 2441 Dwight Way, Berkeley

Hinodeya

A popular ramen chain has arrived in Berkeley. Hinodeya is known for their dashi broth ramen soups, including a creamy vegan ramen and their house ramen special with chashu. Hinodeya has several restaurants in San Francisco and one in Newark. Hinodey in Berkeley has soft opened and is holding its grand opening on Monday, June 1. Hinodeya, 2309 Telegraph Ave., Berkeley

Kitsch Coffee

new coffee shop has arrived in Jack London Square, located next to Narrative vintage collective. Kitsch Coffee, 590 Second St., Oakland

La Perla Tapatia Cafe

A new cafe and sandwich shop has opened near Brookdale Park in Oakland. La Perla Tapatia Café serves espresso drinks, matcha, breakfast items like crepe and avocado toast, salads, and sandwiches. La Perla Tapatia Café, 2603 B High St., Oakland

Mensho

Mensho ramen soft opened this week in Walnut Creek. The much-lauded ramen chain from Tokyo specializes in rich broths, tantan miens, and vegan ramen. An Oakland location opened in 2023 on Piedmont Avenue and there are two locations in San Francisco. Mensho, 1512 N. Main St., Walnut Creek

Narwhal Urban Village

Reader Juliet tipped us off that a new Indian restaurant has opened in Berkeley. Narwal serves tandoori dishes, a variety of breads, and has a vegetarian menu in the former House of Curries restaurant space. Narwal Urban Village, 3136 Sacramento St., Berkeley
