Fish & Bird Sousaku Izakaya

Fish & Bird, an izakaya restaurant in Berkeley, announced that it is closing its door. An Instagram announcement states, in part, “Thank you so much for your support over the past 6 1/2 years; we loved meeting you and serving you. There are various reasons for the closure, but it’s been a tough 6 1/2 years, and I’ve decided to semi-retire.” The last day of service will be Sunday, June 14. Until then, they will be open Thursdays-Mondays. Fish & Bird Sousaku Izakaya, 2451 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley

Gold Palm

Gold Palm, an Uptown Oakland restaurant and bar, has announced that its last day of service will be May 27. Owners Shirin Raza and Daniel Gahr, who also own Bar Shiru, shared with NOSH that the restaurant was not financially sustainable. Gold Palm opened inside the historic Floral Depot building near the Fox Theater in fall 2024. The owners shared that they are available for “private bookings, community gatherings and team outings, with the idea that we will also be open periodically for special events in the neighborhood, such as select Fox shows and OSA concerts at Cloud Park.” Moonglow, a bar and music lounge next to Gold Palm, will remain open and will expand hours starting in June, with some of the familiar small bites such as Gold Palm’s masala fries.
