Volunteers are coming together for a mulch party to kick off a new pollinator garden at Unity Park. The crew will install cardboard and mulch to get weedy grasses under control, then return in the fall to plant drought-tolerant, pollinator-friendly native plants. Tools, snacks and water are provided. All ages are welcome.

3 | Bird walk and talk at the library, May 23
The Golden Gate Bird Alliance is hosting a bird discussion and a nature walk at the Bayview library branch on Saturday. They’ll cover the basics of bird identification and the joys of birding, followed by an optional walk to nearby Booker T. Anderson Park to practice observation skills. Binoculars are available for the walk. Open to adults and children 6 and older.

4 | Exercise and dance at summer’s first Thrive Thursday, May 28
Richmond is welcoming warm weather with the first Thrive Thursday gathering of the season at Nicholl Park. The wellness-oriented event runs every Thursday evening from May 28 through Aug. 6, with lessons in salsa, bachata and other dances alongside yoga, walking with a doctor, resource tables and children’s games. The program aims to create a space where the community can gather, learn and practice healthy habits.
