1 | May Day rally calls for workers’ rights, tax the rich, May 1
Richmond residents are invited to show solidarity with working people this May Day as part of a nationwide demonstration calling for taxing the rich, putting workers first and expanding democracy. Organizers of the May Day 2026: Workers Over Billionaires demonstration are urging people to take a day off work, skip school and forgo shopping as a way to show “collective muscle” and “people power.” They’re also asking residents to gather at the corner of Macdonald Avenue and Civic Center Plaza to show their support.

2 | Wine, oysters and music at First Friday Nights Out, May 1
Live music, food and wine come together at the monthly First Friday Nights Out gathering at Windchaser Wine Company. The vendors include The Factory Bar, Pickles N’ Smoke and Rocky Island Oysters. All ages are welcome, as are dogs on leash. Free parking is available.

3 | Point Richmond gallery opens two exhibits by local artists, May 2
Two exhibits featuring two different styles of art are opening at the ar-ti-fact gallery in Point Richmond. Richmond artists Roy Fabry and Marvin Perry Mann will host a reception for their respective works, on display through May 30. Fabry’s exhibit, entitled “Talking Into the Void,” features colorful Cubist figurative abstractions. Mann’s exhibit, entitled “Unspoken Remains,” is a selection of high chroma abstract landscapes.

4 | AAPI Heritage Month celebration comes to Richmond Memorial Auditorium, May 2
A resource fair, cultural performances, art exhibits, karaoke and a talent show highlight an Asian American Pacific Islander community celebration at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium. The gathering marks AAPI Heritage Month, celebrated nationwide each May.

5 | University gardeners hosting big tomato plant sale, May 2
More than 70 varieties of tomato plants grown by members of the UC Master Gardener Program will entice local gardeners attending the Great Tomato Plant Sale. The sale also features peppers, eggplants and squash. Bring your own containers to carry your plants home. (For safety reasons, no pets are allowed.)

Reimagine Richmond, the RYSE Center and Catholic Charities East Bay are hosting a forum to help immigrants navigate their rights and access community resources. The Know Your Rights and Immigration Forum will include a resource fair as well as consultations with immigration attorneys. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

7 | 23rd Street Merchants Association brings Cinco de Mayo festival to Richmond, May 3
Richmond’s 23rd Street corridor is going all out for Cinco de Mayo a couple of days early with a festival organized by the 23rd Street Merchants Association. The 2026 Cinco de Mayo Festival features live music, dancing, Mexican cuisine, artisan crafts and family friendly entertainment. This is the 21st anniversary of the annual event in Richmond.

8 | Richmondside hosts City Council candidates forums for Districts 3 and 4, May 7 and May 13
Voters can hear from city council candidates at a pair of forums co-sponsored by Richmondside. The forum on May 7 features candidates in the District 3 race. The forum on May 13 features candidates in the District 4 contest. Voters can submit questions in advance or ask them at the events. Mail-in ballots for the June 2 primary election go out beginning May 4.
