Homemade Cafe
The beloved Berkeley restaurant that shuttered and then reopened a year ago is now open for dinner service to go along with its foundational morning menu. The dinner menu features smash burgers, sliders, fried chicken sandwiches and chicken fingers, handcut fries, and beer and wine. General manager and executive chef (and former sole owner of Homemade) Collin Doran shares that everything is made in house, including beef that is ground in house. They also brine and fry chicken in the kitchen and make pickles, hotsauces, and other condiments, or purchase from local purveyors like Semifreddis, Acme bread, and C & M Meat Company. Note that it is not open for dinner on Tuesdays. Homemade Cafe, 2454 Sacramento St., Berkeley
Jiams
A new Southeast Asian restaurant has opened in Oakland’s San Antonio neighborhood. Jiams focuses on Mien, Laos, Thai, Cambodian, and Vietnamese food. Jiams is run by the same family that runs the Lao Market grocery store across the street. Thanks to NOSH tipster for letting us know. Jiams, 1612 International Blvd., Oakland
