Do you feel confused about what's going on at WCCUSD?
Richmondside's free texting service will alert you about our latest school stories and more.
Just text “Richmondside” to 510-781-9051 to sign up.
When the historic WCCUSD strike happened last December Richmondside knew it needed to deliver information to families as quickly as possible. We turned to text messaging.
More than 200 people signed up for this free service, using it to ask questions and send in news tips. They were the first to know when we reported on new developments at Richmondside.org. Subscribers told us Richmondside was a crucial source of reliable schools information — oftentimes their only source — during this unprecedented crisis.
Although the strike has ended, the community’s appetite for school news has not. In fact, the need for accurate, professionally reported independent information has only grown as the district is now cutting millions of dollars from its budget by eliminating student programs and preparing to lay off teachers and staff.
To address this demand, Richmondside is making its school news texting service permanent.
Meet TEXTbook, your trustworthy, timely, easily digestible source of information about the West Contra Costa Unified School District and other education topics.
Use the sign-up form above or text “Richmondside” to 510-781-9051 to subscribe. (If you already receive Richmondside texts, you’re good to go.)
Richmondside is the only news source in west Contra Costa County that has a journalist dedicated to education reporting. When you sign up for TEXTbook you’ll hear directly from education reporter Jana Kadah and other Richmondside staff members.
