The family of a man shot to death Dec. 29 while working in the kitchen of a Richmond IHOP identified him in a GoFundMe post as Romario Raso Garcia.
His sister, Arianna Garcia, said Garcia was “tragically killed at his workplace on December 29, 2025,” and asked for support to give him a proper burial.
“These are very difficult times that no one is ever prepared for. Thank you for your support,” she wrote.
Richmond police officers responded just before 1:45 p.m. Monday to the restaurant on Klose Way and found Garcia, who was described as being in his 30s, on the floor with head injuries, according to Richmond Police Chief Tim Simmons.
According to Romario Garcia’s Facebook page, he was a San Pablo resident from Mexico City.
“Person of interest” in killing shoots self
A day later, on Dec. 30, a San Pablo man, who police say was a “person of interest” in the IHOP shooting, shot himself in the San Pablo Police Department parking lot at about 5:29 p.m., according to a press release. He was in critical condition.
Officers said they were approached by a man who tried to talk to them but there was a language barrier. Shortly after, officers said they heard a single gunshot and found the man, 44, suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The GoFundMe for Garcia has raised $7,193 of its $30,000 goal.
