Editor’s note: Nosh covers food and restaurant news across the East Bay, and each week we publish one article covering all the restaurant openings and one article covering closings. The openings and closings for each month are then compiled into a round-up. Have a tip for Nosh? Submit it here.

Emeryville restaurant closures

Baby Cafe

06.13.25: Baby Cafe has departed the Emeryville Public Market, per the E’Ville Eye. The Hong Kong-style cafe was a fast-casual spot for milk teas and lunch plates like Hainan chicken rice and curry beef stew. Its San Leandro location is still open. Baby Cafe was located at 5959 Shellmound St. in Emeryville.

Rotten City Pizza

06.13.25: After 17 years of slinging pies for the city of Emeryville, Rotten City has closed its doors, the E’Ville Eye reports. The New York-style pizza joint may have a chance of surviving if the employees can cook up a viable employee ownership model. For now, its website has been wiped clean, and its Yelp page states the restaurant is closed. Rotten City was at 6613 Hollis St. (at 66th St.) in Emeryville.

Oakland restaurant closures

The Rendez Vous

07.03.25: The Rendez Vous, a little French bistro tucked in next to the BART tracks on Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., has officially shuttered, per an Instagram announcement. Known for its eclectic, rustic chic interior and contemporary French fare, the Rendez Vous was recently named in Eater’s list of the most beautiful restaurants in the East Bay and served customers for three years before calling it quits. The Rendez Vous was located at 5526 Martin Luther King Jr. Way (at 56th Street) in Oakland.

Walnut Creek restaurant closure

SanDai

06.27.25: SanDai, a popular purveyor of cuisine spanning the Malay archipelago, has closed its doors for good. Known for fresh, comforting dishes like the Nasi Lemak (blue pea coconut rice, koji fried chicken, fried anchovies, spiced coconut floss, roasted peanuts, cucumber salad and a six-minute egg), the restaurant shuttered due to dwindling foot traffic. Eater reports that with a monthly rent of $28,500, SanDai wasn’t pulling in enough money to make it work. However, SanDai’s coffee and pastry side of the business, Kopi Bar, will live on. The team plans to expand to a higher-traffic area in the near future. SanDai was located at 1522 N. Main St. (at Lincoln Ave.) in Walnut Creek.
