Organizers of several local No Kings rallies, including Indivisible East Bay and West Contra Costa Indivisible, estimate that more than 12,000 people converged in Oakland, El Cerrito and El Sobrante in protest of Donald Trump.

In El Sobrante and El Cerrito, an estimated 1,600 people attended the two events. In Oakland, an estimated 10,000 protesters gathered at Wilma Chan Park and marched to Frank Ogawa Plaza, where they rallied, and there were also protests in Berkeley.

About a dozen speakers took the mic to address the crowd in Oakland, including U.S. Rep. Lateefah Simon, Assemblymember Mia Bonta and other city and Alameda County officials.

“When the government starts masking its police force (as ICE does), that means that the secret police have arrived. We saw it in East Germany [before the country was reunified] and dictatorships around the world.

“This is unincorporated Contra Costa County. So it doesn’t really have a town center and therefore it suffers from a lack of community, but damn it, we are doing something about that.”

“The only resistance left is just us. We have to pull our faces up out of our phones and get out there in body — and be peaceful, and adamant.”

“We are coming. We are coming with ballots. We are coming with protests. We are coming with policy. We are coming with the poetry of the truth. No crowd will save you. No fear will break us. We will never kneel to a king,” she said. “We will show them that we will never throw trans children under the bus. We will be voting in 2026. We will show them who we are.”
