BART trains have resumed service after the transportation agency’s entire 50-station system was suspended early Friday due to what the agency described as a “computer networking problem” and a “train control system problem.”

According to BART employees at the Richmond station, limited service resumed at about 9:30 a.m. Travelers should expect major delays toward all destinations as the system recovers.

The agency sent out an alert in a post on X notifying riders just before 9:30 a.m. that the system was back at full service.

BART issued the first alert around 4:24 a.m. today in a post on X.

BART officials haven’t shared much more information about the reason for the system shutdown. A message on BART’s media voicemail line from spokesperson Christopher Filippi said all 50 stations were impacted and that the last time this type of problem happened it took “several hours” to resolve.

Prior to the 9:30 a.m. announcement, the agency was urging riders to find other transportation for their Friday commutes.
