Spring is hard launching in Richmond as this week kicks off with unseasonably high temperatures expected to be 15 to 20 degrees above normal.
The temperature could reach 79 degrees Monday and 80 degrees Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service, due to an elongated area of relatively high atmospheric pressure.
Monday is expected to be sunny with a high of 79 and a calm northeast wind of about 6 mph this afternoon. Monday night should be clear with a low of about 56. Tuesday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 80.
Wednesday it’s expected to cool down with a high near 64 and wind gusts up to 20 mph. There’s a 20% chance of rain Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures become more seasonal this weekend with highs in the low 60s.
If you’re thinking of heading to the coast to cool off, be aware that there’s also an increased risk of sneaker waves and rip currents through 11 p.m. Tuesday for all Pacific Coast beaches.

The weather service advises beachgoers to watch the ocean for 20 minutes before picking a spot on the beach and to stay off of jetties and rocks, keep pets on a leash, wear a life jacket and always face the water.
