Mad Seoul
A reader let us know that Mad Seoul, a contemporary fast-fine Korean restaurant in Berkeley, has seemingly shuttered. Yelp states the business is temporarily closed, and it appears the phone line is disconnected altogether. Mad Seoul was located at 1801 Shattuck Ave.
Perle
After eight years of service to the Montclair neighborhood, French and Mediterranean-inspired wine bar Perle will close its doors on March 31. The SF Chronicle reports that a slew of challenges, including pandemic-induced economic hurdles and the departure of Oakland’s three professional sports teams, contributed to the decision. On Instagram, the business wrote, “What a crazy run! We have no excuses. No blame. Just gratitude to have been able to serve y’all.” Perle was located at 2058 Mountain Blvd. in Oakland.
Upstairs
Revelers awaiting the weekend to return to Snail Bar’s latest concept, Upstairs, were met with disappointing news just days after its initial opening: the swanky listening lounge has already been shut down by Oakland city officials. After a jam-packed opening weekend on March 7, Upstairs announced a sudden closure on March 13 via Instagram, assuring fans that it would be back following a “short pause to give our space a glow-up.” The San Francisco Chronicle reports the City of Oakland sent a cease and desist letter to both Snail Bar and the landlord, Gee Whiz LLC, writing that Upstairs violated city codes as an unlicensed entertainment venue. Stay tuned for news on a reopening. Upstairs was located above Snail Bar at 4935 Shattuck Avenue in Oakland.
