Editor’s note: Nosh covers food and restaurant news across the East Bay, and each week we publish one article covering all the restaurant openings and one article covering closings. The openings and closings for each month are then compiled into a round-up. Have a tip for Nosh? Submit it here.

Emeryville restaurant closure

C Casa

02.05.25: After seven years of service in Emeryville, taqueria C Casa is closing its doors, the E’ville Eye reports. The restaurant cited post-pandemic economic struggles, though it was also recently fined over $45,000 by the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour division for violations at their Napa location, including “reckless child labor law violations.” All of the taqueria’s locations have now closed. C Casa was located at 5959 Shellmount St. in Emeryville.

Oakland restaurant closures

Carry On Curry

02.27.25: Carry On Curry , a fast-casual destination for quick Indian lunch takeout and imported grocery items, appears to have shuttered its Old Oakland location. Nosh reached out to inquire about the closure, but hasn’t heard back as of the time of publication. However, a peek in the window revealed a completely emptied out space with no signs of activity. The restaurant opened in summer 2024, and the “Grand Opening Celebration” sign still hangs above the front window. Carry On Curry was located at 815B Washington St. in Oakland.

Monkey King Pub & GrubPiedmont Ave.

03.07.25: In a heartfelt letter posted on its Piedmont Ave. storefront window, Monkey King Pub & Grub announced it shuttered its Oakland location on Feb. 28. “Following four years of turbulence,” the letter said, “we’ve come to our senses that we actually don’t have the man power, resources, energy, and business model to expand any further location [sic].” The letter continued that Monkey King uses only wok-style cooking techniques, which makes it hard to find chefs as the population of skilled workers in this arena is aging out. Two Alameda Monkey King locations remain, and Yummy Yummy Hibachi is set to take over the Piedmont Ave. spot. Monkey King was located at 3920 Piedmont Ave. in Oakland.

Sweet July

02.05.25: Sweet July, the café and home goods store Ayesha Curry called her “love letter to Oakland,” is signing off for good. The chef and entrepreneur opened Sweet July in 2021, but cited safety concerns for staff and patrons in an Instagram post announcing the closure. The café’s last day of service is Feb. 9. Sweet July was located at 455 23rd St. in Oakland.

Timeless Coffee — Jack London Square

03.07.25: Timeless Coffee, the plant-based coffee roaster, wordlessly shuttered its Jack London Square location. Nosh reached out to confirm when the closure occurred, but we haven’t heard back as of time of publication. The coffee shop still has two other Oakland locations in downtown and on Piedmont Ave. Timeless Coffee was located at 85 Webster St. in Oakland.
