Three people were injured on Carlson Boulevard Saturday morning during a chase involving the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office and a person driving a truck, according to authorities.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident in an email to Richmondside on Tuesday morning and said deputies had tried to stop a 43-year-old man driving the reportedly stolen truck in the area of North Richmond before the man fled.

“The driver initially stopped but then fled as the deputy attempted a traffic stop, leading the officer on a pursuit onto Carlson Boulevard,” said Jimmy Lee, public information officer for the sheriff’s office. “The pursuit was terminated because of the speeds. Shortly after, the suspect vehicle collided with another car at the intersection of Carlson and Imperial Avenue in Richmond.”

Richmond police Lt. Donald Patchin said RPD officers responded just before 10 a.m. after the truck collided with a Toyota Prius injuring the driver of the truck and two passengers inside the other vehicle at the 1500 block of Carlson Boulevard.

Patchin said the driver of the truck which crashed in front of the Kwik Serve gas station was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies at the scene.

Lee said the man was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges that included felony evading, vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and probation violation. He is being held without bail.

“The parties in the vehicle that was struck sustained moderate injuries,” Lt. Donald Patchin, Richmond Police Department public information officer, said. “RPD is investigating the collision portion of the incident.”
