The Black Neighborhood, a nonprofit that hosts events in Richmond and Oakland, had its 9th Annual Turkey Drive at the Richmond Recreation Complex on Sunday, with a break in the rain making it easier on the many volunteers who handed out holiday birds and bags of fixings.

Founders Cory Elliot, Uzo Nwadugbo, and Kimani Elliot understand the importance of providing families with free Thanksgiving meals, especially in challenging economic times. The meal kits, which include stuffing, vegetables, and other items, were made possible by donations, with Prospect Sierra School in El Cerrito providing the turkeys.
