While so far the storms caused by an atmospheric river are sparing Richmond from a deluge, inquiring minds still want to know: How much rain is Richmond getting?

Once upon a time newspapers and TV stations sent rainfall collection devices to community members who would diligently report their findings — a decidedly low-tech way of gathering data.

Fortunately today the Contra Costa County Flood Control District collects rainfall totals from 30 rain gauges and publishes it online every 20 minutes in an interactive rain map, embedded below. (Use your cursor to zoom in or out on the map.)
