Caspers Famous Hot Dogs

Caspers in Richmond will close soon. The last day of operation is May 16. The location will reportedly become a new restaurant under a new name and ownership that will also serve hotdogs. As the San Francisco Chronicle reported, the new owner is Courtland “Corky” Booze, a former Richmond city council member. Caspers was founded in 1934 on First Avenue in Oakland. The Richmond closure leaves locations in Oakland, Dublin, Hayward and Pleasant Hill as the last remaining Caspers restaurants.  Caspers, 2530 Macdonald Ave., Richmond

Clove & Hoof

After a reader tip, NOSH called and stopped by the restaurant at 40th Street and Broadway during regular hours and it was closed. Also, Google has listed Clove & Hoof in as permanently closed. Nosh has reached out to get more information. The restaurant opened in 2014, specializing in whole animal butchery, but in 2022 switched to only selling prepared foods. CoCo Noir Wine Shop & Bar

The owner of CoCo Noir, Alicia Kidd, announced that she will be closing her shop after Sunday, July 5. The wine shop opened in 2022. The shop and bar is open Thursdays-Sundays until it closes in July.  CoCo Noir Wine Shop & Bar, 360 13th St., Oakland

Masa Ramen (temporary?)

Masa Ramen appears temporarily closed. The website is down, the phone number doesn’t work, and Yelp has reported Masa Ramen as temporarily closed until January 2027. There is a sign on the window that says “Closed for vacation / Be back 4.14.” So far, it appears to still be closed. Masa Ramen, 1923 University Ave., Berkeley

Oken

Oken, one of the most talked about restaurant openings in Oakland one year ago, announced that its last day of operation will be May 31. The Rockridge restaurant, opened by Albert Ok (Ok’s Deli), serves contemporary Korean and Japanese fare. “The restaurant industry is tough and we are not big on making excuses or elaborate sad stories,” the closing announcement on Instagram states. “We will take more time to reassess our situation and examine what our options are.” With dishes like chilled Sichuan chicken breast, ganjang fried chicken, tsukune dumpling noodle soup, and baechu (cabbage) salad, Oken, which opened in May 2025, was nominated for Best New Restaurant in the 2025 Nosh Awards. Oken, 6200 Claremont Ave., Oakland
