1 | Families can learn to cook together at community event, March 20

Children and adults can whip recipes together at a gathering sponsored by the nonprofit organization FIERCE Advocates. At the Cooking for Families event, parents and children will receive hands-on lessons on kitchen skills and food preparation. They’ll also be encouraged to try out new recipes. “Bring your appetite and your enthusiasm, and leave with a sense of accomplishment, tasty meals and quality time well spent,” event organizers said. 2 | ‘Craft jam session’ to celebrate Women’s History Month, March 21

You can attend an urban renewal gathering as part of Women’s History Month. The Upcycle Workshop is billed as a “crafting jam session” where participants can experiment with jewelry, textiles and crafts. Organizers will provide supplies to “repurpose, refresh and reimagine” items such as old denim jackets or fashion accessories. Mimosas and light snacks will be served. 3 | Event recognizing National Rosie the Riveter Day, March 21

The women who worked in the nation’s shipyards during World War II will be honored at a celebration along the Richmond shoreline this weekend. The Rosie the Riveter Trust is inviting the public to attend a family-friendly celebration to highlight National Rosie the Riveter Day. The free event will feature engaging activities, presentations and inspiring stories. 4 | Maritime history lessons aboard historic Richmond ship, March 21

You can learn more about World War II aboard the historic SS Red Oak Victory ship. The hosts of two YouTube maritime history channels will deliver lectures on the history of shipyards and ship building during the Second World War. 5 | Learn about horticultural organizations at Plant Nerd Day, March 21

The Curious Flora nursery is sponsoring a Plant Nerd Day to educate the public about the various horticultural organizations in the Bay Area. Members of groups such as Western Horticultural Society will be on hand to answer gardening questions. Refreshments will be served and discounts on plants will be available for organization members and new sign-ups. 6 | Neighborhood artists display works at market fair

More than 50 artists, artisans and neighborhood organizations will display their arts and crafts at the Neighborhood Artists Market, which will also feature items from local restaurants, including The Factory Bar, Tacos El Tucan, Waffles & Cream and Catahoula Coffee. 7 | Walk and bird watch at hike around Hilltop Lake

You can look for woodpeckers, wrens and hummingbirds at a bird watching walk at Hilltop Lake Park. The 1-mile flat stroll is sponsored by the Golden Gate Bird Alliance. It follows the paved path around the lake. The hike is limited to 20 people and participants must register by Monday, March 23.
