Highwire Montclair (temporary?)

The Highwire coffee shop in Oakland’s Montclair Village has closed, Highwire announced on March 2. In a message posted to the company website, the closure is being called temporary. The Highwire Workers Union website and Instagram accounts allege workers at the Montclair coffee shop were all laid off on March 2, “the same deadline workers set for the company to respond to demands addressing harassment, transphobia, favoritism, and retaliation.” Workers are also asking the management to reopen the Montclair location and also reinstate workers at other locations. A note posted at the shop signed by “Highwire Coffee Roasters” and adjacent to a “Now Hiring” flyer states, in part: “After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close our Montclair Village cafe.” Nosh is following the story, and stay tuned for updates. Highwire, 2059 Mountain Blvd., Oakland.

Olfactory Brewing

The Berkeley taproom appears to have closed. The brewery closed its San Francisco taproom in the Dogpatch in December, citing “unsustainable operating costs.” The Berkeley location opened approximately two years ago. At the start of March, the Berkeley taproom’s Instagram had “closed” posted in the bio, with no further posts about its shuttering. As of March 5, the brewery’s website and two Instagram accounts have been taken down. Olfactory Brewing, 2055 Center St., Ste. D, Berkeley.
