The Masquers theater group in Point Richmond will debut the play “Doctor Voynich and Her Children” on Fri., March 13. 2 | Learn about bioswales while helping clean up Baxter Creek, March 14

Members of The Watershed Project will educate the public about bioswales as part of a cleanup of Baxter Creek. Learn how the bioswale channel near Baxter Creek is designed and how it works to prevent pollution and reduce flooding in the creek near the Richmond-El Cerrito border that flows into San Francisco Bay. 3 | Waiting list started for adult basketball league, March 14

The Adult Basketball Drop-In pilot program, which begins on Sat., March 14, and continues through May 23, has started a waiting list for interested players. Games are played on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Richmond Recreation Complex gym, 3230 Macdonald Ave. Adult Basketball Drop-In, $15 for three months for Richmond residents, $18 per month for non-residents. 5 | Library presenting stories about strong women and girls, March 17

Given that March is International Women’s Month, it’s fitting that the Richmond library is presenting some empowerment stories for girls and women. Storyteller Hanna Takashige will recount folk tales from various cultures about strong women and girls. Takashige has worked in early childhood, pediatric, special needs, memory care, skilled nursing and hospice settings. 6 | Bird walk featuring hawks and woodpeckers planned for Alvarado Park, March 17

The Golden Gate Bird Alliance is hosting a bird watching hike in Alvarado Park. The free hike will consist of a relatively flat half-mile loop on graded paths. Organizers say hikers can expect to see birds such as the acorn woodpecker, the Steller’s jay, the red-shouldered hawks and brown creepers.
