Richmond police announced a man has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of sexual battery attacks that occurred near the Point Richmond Tunnel earlier this summer.

Ronald Bryant, 56, of Richmond was arrested on Aug. 12, according to the Richmond Police Department. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Bryant on Aug. 15.

The attacks occurred on June 8, June 11 and July 15 near the Point Richmond Tunnel on Dornan Drive. All three incidents involved sexual battery, according to police.

Bryant faces nine charges: One count of assault with intent to commit a felony, three felony counts of false imprisonment by violence and five counts of misdemeanor sexual battery. He is in custody with bail set at $200,000.

According to a press release, the Richmond Police Department’s Investigations Bureau solved the case by pursuing numerous leads, conducting undercover decoy operations, using Flock license plate reader data and collecting forensic evidence.

Police had previously described the incidents as occurring during daylight and early evening hours, primarily targeting individuals who were jogging or exercising alone along popular walking paths in the Point Richmond area.

Bryant was arraigned in Contra Costa County Superior Court on Monday and is expected to appear for another hearing on Aug. 28, according to court records.
