Calypso Rose
The E’ville Eye reported that the Calypso Rose kiosk, home to classic Caribbean cuisine like jerk chicken and curried shrimp, has departed the Emeryville Public Market. We don’t know the reasoning behind the closure. The restaurant was spearheaded by executive chef Verna McGowan, who is a graduate of San Francisco’s Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Academy. Calypso Rose was located in the Emeryville Public Market at 5959 Shellmound St.
Jo’s Modern Thai
Jo’s Modern Thai, the Laurel district’s Michelin-recommended hotspot, announced a temporary closure on Instagram Tuesday. The restaurant will be undergoing upgrades “due to unforeseen circumstances,” per the post. Jo’s, at 3725 MacArthur Blvd. in Oakland, will be back for service on November 2.
