West Contra Costa Unified School District Superintendent Cheryl Cotton told parents today that a Kennedy High School coach was fired in September after being accused of “inappropriate conduct” involving a student, according to a ParentSquare message shared with Richmondside.
Superintendent Cheryl Cotton wrote to parents Thursday morning following media reports Wednesday that Richmond police identified former girls varsity volleyball coach Timothy Logan, 49, of Richmond, as the person arrested on multiple charges, including unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.
Logan, who lists his occupation on LinkedIn as “coach and mentor,” was apparently previously a girls basketball coach at De Anza High School and a coach at El Cerrito High. He also is listed as holding an assistant coach position at Oakland Tech for two years, from 2014 to 2016.

“This news is deeply concerning for our entire community. The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. School administrators and counselors will be available to provide support to students, families, and staff as we process and respond to this information together,” Cotton said.
Cotton said the district first received a report of an issue in September.
“The District took immediate action upon notification, and the staff member was terminated,” she wrote. “The Richmond Police Department conducted an investigation, and on Monday, February 2, the individual was taken into custody and formally charged.”
Richmond police said in a press release that the district attorney filed charges on Jan. 23 following a months-long investigation. In addition to the unlawful intercourse charge, the charges include two counts of lewd or lascivious acts on a child who is 14 or 15 years old, one count of contacting a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense and one count of annoying or molesting a minor.
The DA’s office told Richmondside Thursday that Logan, who is out on bail, pled innocent to all charges at his arraignment on Tuesday and waived his right to a speedy trial. The court issued a protective order to keep him away from the student.
His next appearance is set for Feb. 19.
