An eighth-grade English/language arts teacher at Caliber Beta Academy in San Pablo was one of two people killed early Saturday in a mass shooting at a downtown Oakland bar that left five others injured, according to news reports.
Caliber Public Schools said in a social media post that they’re mourning the death of Latetia Bobo, 33, who was “deeeply cherished” by her students, their families and her colleagues. There will be no school today in honor of Bobo, the school said on Facebook.
“She was an incredible educator and an even more incredible human being who truly valued relationships and community. Her presence brought unmistakeable light to our campus,” an Instagram post said.
According to news reports, the shooting happened at EZ Bar, 412 14th St., at 3:30 a.m. Also killed was a 25-year-old man whose identity hasn’t been released.

The Tara Hills TK-eight charter school, described as a non-selective charter school offering a “rigorous, personalized, college preparatory” education for Bay Area students, also has campuses in Richmond and San Pablo.
A Facebook post by Lavonia Bobo of Richmond said, “Thank you everyone for the love. My family and I are still trying to process the death of Latetia. Thank you for the love you have gave her and my family. Latetia, thank you for being an amazing sister. Forever and Always.” She tagged Bobo’s “teeshbobo” Instagram, where the slain teacher refers to herself as a “teacher by day/superstar by night” and links to a music video.
